Tiswadi, also known as Ilhas (meaning 'islands' in Portuguese), is one of the twelve talukas (sub-districts) of Goa, India. It is centrally located and is home to the state capital, Panaji (or Panjim). Historically significant, Tiswadi was the first territory in Goa to be conquered by the Portuguese in 1510, making it a pivotal area in the colonial history of the region. The taluka is characterized by its island-like geography, being surrounded by rivers such as the Mandovi and Zuari, and the Arabian Sea.
