Tiruvannamalai is a significant pilgrimage city located in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is renowned for the Annamalaiyar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is one of the Pancha Bhoota Stalam (five Shiva temples, each representing one of the five elements of nature) representing the element of fire (Agni). The city is nestled at the base of the sacred Arunachala Hill, believed to be a manifestation of Shiva himself. Millions of devotees undertake the Girivalam (circumambulation) of this hill, especially during full moon days and the annual Karthigai Deepam festival, when a giant lamp is lit atop the hill.
